Week 3 - Blogging

Good afternoon!

A few interesting links (found on Reddit.com) recently ...

These are quite old (sorry):

Today ...

1) Check to see that all blog posts are up-to-date and mistakes have been fixed.
2) Present your thoughts to the class on Authentic vs ESL materials.
3) Kevin will introduce the Academic Resources page on the Lifelong English website.
4) Discuss the Input Hypothesis (インプット仮説) in class.

Input Hypothesis / インプット仮説

Paragraph about Blogging in English due Oct. 13 Thurs / Oct. 18 Tues
  • Think about all the blog posts you made last year and this year. What did you blog about? How many posts did you make? Did your blog topic change in two years?
  • Did you learn anything by blogging? For example, did you learn more about the subject of your blog? Did you learn how to write better?
  • Did blogging help you improve your English? For example, did you learn some vocabulary, grammar points or useful collocations?
  • Did blogging help you learn about online posting? For example, did you learn anything about html, photo editing, how to use templates and color schemes, how to make links or embed videos, etc?
  • Make a paragraph about Blogging in English and send it to Kevin's email. You will present this on Oct. 13 / Oct. 18
  • Sample comments from previous year students.
  • This paragraph will appear in your graduation report and your best blog post will appear with it as an example of your blog writing.

Example of a long quotation in an academic article:

Kevin will show you how a quotation fits into your graduation report.

Schedule
Next week (Oct. 6 / Oct. 11) present Online Comics
Two weeks (Oct. 13 / Oct. 18) present on the Blogging in English

Welcome Back! - Fall 2022 Class #1

Hi everyone, and welcome back to the Lifelong English Seminar!

I hope you all had a great summer. Please tell us a little about what you did!

Summer Intensive Course 2022

Students in my Thursday class need to get their bibliography current and correct asap.

Are your blogs current and updated? You edited all mistakes?

Blog Post #3 is due next class (Sept. 22 Sept. 27). You will present it the same day. This is your last blog post!

Today: Authentic vs ESL materials and resources talk; write about this for Sept. 29 / Oct. 4. Send me your writing a few days earlier by email.

Jamboard (Tues)

You have only a few more topics to write about, then you will start your final report. To prepare for the graduation report, please read Miho Takaku's complete report that appeared in Tsurumi Review 52 in 2021. Kevin will give a hard copy of the most recent Tsurumi Review in class. You can also read Tsugumi Sato's complete 2020 report from Tsurumi Review 51.
